The Lion King at Minskoff Theatre

The young Simba chooses to escape the Pride Lands and goes into self-imposed banishment lasting a long period of time. In his time away, he meets new companions, Timon and Pumbaa, who bring joy to Simba's lonely life and include him in their group. Simba's relaxed demeanor then takes a turn when Simba once again meets his childhood confidant Nala, who shares the plight of the people with him and requests him to retake his rightful place as king.

This incredibly powerful story of loss, true friendship, and fearless leadership is amplified by the original film's music, penned by Elton John and Tim Rice. Their original songs, coupled with more songs and lyrics from big names like Zimmer, Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, and director Julie Taymor have served as the foundation of The Lion King not just in local performances, but also in several tours all over the world.

The Disney stage adaptation premiered on July 8, 1997, at the Orpheum theater in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
